Abstract: The oscillating reaction is a chemical reaction in which the concentrations of the reactants decrease and products increase in stepwise form, while the concentrations of intermediates oscillate in time. The oscillations obtained can be inhibited by small amount of different perturbants, named reactive analytes. Based on this observation the oscillatory reaction can be successfully applied for measuring concentration and the potential antioxidative or antiradical activity of different analytes. In this work, the oscillatory reaction is used as a matrix for quantitative determination one of the widespread neuro-stimulant guarana. The main component of guarana attributed to neuro-stimulant properties is caffeine. The caffeine reacts with key intermediate in oscillatory reaction causing the inhibition of oscillatory behavior. Keywords: Oscillating reaction, Briggs-Rauscher reaction, Guarana, Caffeine, neuro-stimulant.
