Abstract: The efficiency calibration of gamma spectrometers has a great importance for the determination of activity concentrations in different samples. The efficiency is a complex function of many parameters, such as the energy, spectrometer characteristics, measurement geometry, properties of the matrix, etc. The procedure for preparation of efficiency calibration standards with different geometries, densities and chemical compositions that are similar to those of the measured samples has been developed. Calibration standards have been prepared using certified mixed radionuclide standard solution which was incorporated into inactive matrices, made of natural organic and inorganic materials. The densities of the matrices varied from 0.6 to 1.0 g/cm3. This paper presents simple procedures and techniques used for efficiency calibration standard preparation together with experimentally determined efficiency curves for used geometry and density. Keywords: gamma-ray spectrometry, efficiency calibration, standard preparation. |
