Abstract: The chemical compatibility of explosives, pyrotechnics and propellants with polymers is studied to evaluate potential hazards when those materials are in contact with other materials during production, storage and handling. In this paper, the compatibility of very important explosive materials: Octogen (HMX) and Pentrite (PETN) was studied with the materials: polyamide 12 (PA 12), Hydroxyl Terminated Polybutadiene (HTPB), fluoroelastomer (Viton A) by using thermal method-Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Vacuum Stability Test (VST) methods. The criteria to judge the compatibility between materials is based on a standardization agreement (STANAG 4147, 2001) and the value of the chemical compatibility were calculated according to the presented results. Keywords: Compatibility, HMX, PETN, PA 12, HTPB, Viton A, Differential scanning calorimetry, Vacuum stability test. |
