Abstract: The NATO Codification System (NCS) is the standard for logistics information exchange among military units worldwide and is an important cornerstone to Logistics Interoperability. NCS data are used by soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines in 28 NATO countries and the 36 non-NATO countries that have signed partnership agreements with NATO Allied Committee 135. The NCS is also used by civilian government agencies in many countries and by many defense contractors. By codifying its products, civilian companies can gain access to this huge market and accrue as well the benefits of this system. This article gives a qualitative assessment of possible benefits for civil companies, based on the experience of the Montenegrin National Codification Bureau.

Key words: NATO, codification, benefits, civil companies.
