Abstract: This paper shows the results of the mass action measurements for radionuclides in granite and marble samples. Gamma spectrometry analysis has been conducted using a high purity germanium (HPGe) detector, and the mass actions of the 226Ra, 232Th and 40K radionuclides in the tested samples satisfy (except in two cases) the criteria for the use of these materials in civil engineering and building construction. A few granite and marble samples have radioactivity levels higher than the annual limit of 1mSv. Granite is usually used for flooring. A limiting factor for granites as decorative elements on floors and walls is not required. Key words: gamma spectrometry, radionuclide, granite, decorative materials.
