NEW HIGHT EXPLOSIVE – POLYCYCLIC NITRAMINE HEXANITROHEXAAZAISOWURTZITAN (HNIW, CL-20)
Physico-chemical and detonation properties of a new high explosive are presented and compared with octogen. CL-20 exists in four crystalline forms, stable at different temperatures. Only the ε and the β form are used in ex-ploitation. CL-20 has better detonation properties than octogen, higher den-sity and detonation rate but lower impact and friction sensitivity (of the PETN class). The CL-20 melting point is lower than in octogen, 240°C approximately.
