NEW APPLICA-TION OF COPPER WIRE PAIRS: xDSL TECHNOLOGY

In the last few years we have witnessed fast expansion of communication technologies, among which are mobile communications and Internet. By means of the Moore’s law the number of transistors placed on silicone chip expands exponentially, enabling more complicated applications to be used. On the other hand, the Internet growth (with its own Moore’s law), and wish for more speed places a rather big problem of ISP access in front of the engineers. ISDN with its speed of 160 kbps soon become too slow for „bandwidth-hungry applications” such as IP-telephony and real-time video. With fiber optics still too far, the only solution is xDSL.
