TRACTION LEAD BATTERIES – ACHIEVED LEVEL OF TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT AND IMPROVEMENT TENDENCIES

Lead batteries are being developed for almost 140 years. However, the achieved level of development is not satisfactory as far as specific electrical characteristics, self-discharging and gas separation are concerned. Significant technological improvement has been achieved for traction lead batteries in the production of alloys and active materials as well as in productivity but it is still not enough. The development tendency is to increase the specific energy and power of batteries, to reduce self – discharging and the quantity of developed gases and to extend the choice of traction lead batteries without maintenance.
